I have a handful of cookbooks to my name, including Nibbled, Juiced, Retro and Cooking Vegetables. Alas, I’m no Nigella. Not even a Donna Hay. The recipes were existing content that Murdoch Books decided were ripe for repackaging. My gig was to conjure up all the other words that go around the recipes. The bread to their meat if you will.  

 

It’s not as straightforward as writing “Chaptet One: Entrees”. There’s an art to grouping the recipes in such a way that you grant the book form, or even a kind of culinary narrative. There are still dishes to be tested, photographs taken, an aesthetic developed. You’ll find the people who create the book on the inside flap, back or front depending on house style, but never on the cover.
